The E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) is the U.S. Air Force’s primary command and control aircraft. Its iconic radar combined with an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) subsystem can eliminate ground clutter to detect, identify and track enemy and friendly low-flying aircraft. The E-3’s situational awareness allows it to send direct intelligence about the battlespace to partners in the air, land and sea and, in times of crisis, to the president and secretary of defense.
